Rocket Challenge

A big day is coming up for high school Aero Science Engineering Teams at 14 area schools this weekend. Anahuac High School is hosting the 2018 Rocket Challenge this Friday, Saturday and Sunday just north of Smith Point in Chambers County near Anahuac. Students from those schools will be launching rockets they designed and built beginning at 8 a.m. each day and continuing until dark. Anahuac High Aero Science Instructor Coach Kirk Moore said the event is less a competition than a showcase for rocket science students abilities.   The public is invited to the Rocket Challenge this Friday, Saturday and Sunday May 11th through May 13th near Smith Point. It is free to come and watch but they do ask you to pre-register. Anahuac will join students from 13 other schools, including the Liberty High School Aero Science Teams to launch their rockets. Those include vehicles designed either to reach one mile altitude with a one pound payload or to break the sound barrier under a height of 13,000 feet. The launchings are set to begin at 8 a.m. on Friday May 11th. For more information or to pre-register as a spectator, contact Kirk Moore at Anahuac High School 409 267 3600.
