Hardin County Trial

A Kountze man is facing the death penalty, or life in prison, after he was found guilty of Capital Murder by a Hardin County jury last Friday in the 356th District Court of Judge Steven Thomas. Forty-year-old Jason Wade Delacerda was convicted of killing his then girlfriend’s 4-year-old daughter, Breonna Nichole Loftin, back in August 2011. The mother, 36-year-old Amanda Nichole Guidry, has also been indicted in connection with her daughter’s death. Court testimony concerning the little girl’s autopsy showed bleeding on three parts of the brain, a leg fracture, 12 broken ribs, and burns along with other injuries. During Jason Delacerda’s trial, the defense did not make an opening statement nor did they present evidence or cross examine witnesses. The Beaumont Enterprise newspaper reports Defense Attorney Ryan Gertz said that strategy was used to preserve the record for an appeal, which he said will be filed after sentencing. Hardin County District Attorney David Sheffield and Assistant DA Bruce Hoffer are representing the state. The Beaumont newspaper said the Hardin County DA has declined comment on the conviction until after sentencing. Once again, 40-year-old Jason Wade Delacerda has been convicted of Capital Murder in the 356th District Court in Hardin County. The punishment phase is under way, and prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
