School Board Recognition Month

January is School Board Recognition Month, a chance to build awareness of the crucial role elected trustees play in their Texas communities. School board members – working without pay - tackle the enormous job of governing school districts. Their actions and decisions affect both the present and future lives of children. Just in the seven school districts of Liberty County, there are 49 volunteers now serving as elected board members. DISD trustees are  President Thomas Payne plus Dr. Luke Chachere, Linda Harris, Kerri Bartee, Josh Day, Larry Wadzeck and C.D. Williams. At Liberty ISD, trustees include President Bruce Bell along with Lance Lawrence, Patty Watson, Debbie Beasley, D-Ann Berry, Malcom Goudeau and Rachel Odell. The seven Hardin ISD trustees are President Cody Parrish, James Campbell, Jerry Ursprung, Justin Key, Dana Holst, Charles Bolds and Elaine Tidwell. These seven are elected members of the Cleveland ISD Board – President Chris Wood, Christina Purkerson, Kelly Jenkel-Axton, Ronnie Lewis, Sharica Lewis, Aaron Montesnieto and Kellie Whitmire. Serving as trustees in the Tarkington school district are President Kem Arnold, Grant Cook, Pete Vandver, Dorothy McCreight, Allen Coogler, Marcus King and Kevin Johnson. There are also seven school trustees in the Hull-Daisetta ISD. They are President Kelley Berry, Joseph Espree, Vincent Espree, Gerard Eaglin, Gaye Nell Harrison, Beth Johnson and David McClusky. Lastly, in Devers school district, the seven trustees are President Tommy McIntosh, Delia Sellers, Donna Hebert , Jacob LeJeune, Matt Horelica (hor-lisa), Zack Zbranek and Michelle Carr. Even though showing appreciation for the countless hours these 49 unpaid elected officials dedicate to the children of Liberty County should be done year-round, taking advantage of the designated school board recognition month assures these special folks receive some of the thanks they each deserve.
