Liberty City Council January 2018

At their meeting Tuesday, the Liberty City Council approved a 2.7% rate increase requested by L. T. s Garbage Service. The contract between the city and L. T. s allows the solid waste service company to exercise that rate increase following their first year of garbage pick up. Liberty City Manager Gary Broz said the average residential cost of garbage pick up will go up from around the present charge of $17.75 to $18.85 per month. That $1.10 per months garbage service rate increase for Liberty residents will take effect on February 1st. In other action, Liberty Council approved the sale of two separate properties seized for unpaid taxes. The first is located on Robbie Street near Lakeland. The offer for the property which contains a brick home was $57,000. Liberty City Attorney Brandon Davis said the offer was the exact amount of the unpaid taxes on the property plus court costs for the seizure.  The second tax property resale approved by Liberty City Council members was a vacant lot located on Westwood Avenue, off FM 563. Council approved an offer of $4, 274 for that property. The money paid on the resale of these properties is distributed between the various taxing entities involved including the City of Liberty, Liberty County, Liberty School District and the Liberty County Hospital District.
