LHS Veterans Event

A reminder – this Friday, Liberty High School students and staff will honor military veterans in our community for Veteran’s Day with breakfast and a special program. All current and former service men and women plus a guest are invited to breakfast at 7:30 a.m.Friday hosted by the LHS Interact Club. That is followed by a program in their honor at the LHS gym at 8:30. Liberty High School Coach Joe Roberts said the keynote speaker is Dave Dillard who lives near Livingston, Texas. Born on a small farm in California, Dave Dillard joined the Army in 1966 at the age of 17 and became a paratrooper, serving two combat tours in Vietnam. After his discharge in 1974, he went to Monterey Peninsula College and then finished his bachelor’s degree at San Francisco State University’s School of Theatre Arts. Dave Dillard is a singer-songwriter and has taught music and drama in elementary schools. His passion will always be for this nation’s veterans. For more than 25 years, Mr. Dillard has been a veterans’ advocate, helping those, who served in combat, process their claims. He is the father of six and now lives with his wife, Susie, on a small ranch near Livingston, Texas. His main focus today is establishing the “Home Town Release Foundation,” making sure the men and women serving in combat zones today are not forgotten. Again, all military veterans, their spouses and family members are invited to meet in the LibertyHigh School special events room this Friday morning at 7:30to sign in and have breakfast. Then, the special program will start at 8:30. For more information, call Liberty High School at 936-336-6483.
