Liberty Drainage Construction

The major two-part construction project to repair the City of Liberty’s main drainage ditch as well as to shore up the city’s levee is to start on Monday November 13th. We have reported the work is a joint effort by the city and the Water Control and Improvement District #5.  Each project was initially estimated to cost around $2 million. Because the two government agencies providing the funding allowed both projects to be let to the same contractor, the result is closer to $3 million total for both projects. Liberty City Manager Gary Broz said there will be a lot of activity at the Main-A drainage ditch on North Travis Stand the slope of the Trinity River Side of the city’s West Levee.Grant money for new earthwork on the river side of the levee is coming from the National Resources Conservation Service. City Manager Gary Broz said the City of Liberty will provide about $250, 000 in matching funds for the levee repair project. That funding is coming from the Liberty Community Development Corporation Budget.  Meanwhile WCID #5 is putting up the matching funds for the Main-A Outflow Pump work, with grant money from FEMA.
