Court Appointed Special Advocates

Father’s Day is this Sunday, but for those children in the foster care system, the day can be a painful and lonely reminder of their past. Court Appointed Special Advocates or CASA of Liberty and Chambers Counties is an organization that recruits, trains and supports volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children. Local CASA Executive Director Debbie Dugger said this time of the year provides a good opportunity to reflect on the need children have for a reliable fatherly figure in their lives. Mrs. Dugger said research shows a strong benefit to the involvement of a CASA volunteer in the life of a foster child. Debbie Dugger said there is a need for additional volunteers, especially men, who are willing to make a difference right here in Liberty and Chambers counties. For those interested, CASA is offering monthly training opportunities and they can even schedule a training class more convenient to your schedule. To learn more about becoming a volunteer with CASA of Liberty and Chambers Counties, call their office at 936-334-9000. You can also go to their website. That can be accessed from kshn.com – just click on the organization tab under local information to find that CASA link.
