WHataburger Fire

Here’s more on yesterday morning’s fire at the Whataburger restaurant on US 90 in Liberty. As we reported, the fast-food establishment has been described by firefighters as a total loss. The City of Liberty Fire Department responded to a report of fire around 5:30 a.m.yesterday. Liberty Assistant Fire Chief Steven Grimm said firefighters arrived to heavy smoke pouring out of the building with a minimal fire coming out of the west side drive through and roof area. Fire Chief Brian Hurst said the fire started above the office area and appears to be electrical in origin. However, because of the extent of the damage, firefighters could not determine the exact spot of ignition. It was back in June 2015 that a small SUV crashed into the Whataburger restaurant, heavily damaging the building near the drive-through window. It was closed for repairs, opening back up September 2015. Now, an early morning fire has destroyed the inside of Liberty’s Whataburger from front to rear.  Liberty Assistant Fire Chief Steven Grimm said the building is a total loss from smoke, heat and fire damage. No injuries were reported. Whataburger- was open 24/7 and first reports came from the overnight staff and passersby.
