Trophies Discarded

Trophies Discarded: For roughly the last 20 years, the Liberty County 4-H Mounted Drill Team has come to represent excellence by local youth. Under the direction of Drill Master Tommy Small, the local drill team has racked up state championship wins year after year and competed on the national level as well. Now, the record of that excellence, made up of trophies, plaques and banners are gone. Apparently, the decision of a Boot Barn employee has resulted in those mounted drill team awards being literally thrown in to the garbage. Liberty County 4-H Drill Master Tommy Small said he had permission from the corporate headquarters of the Boot Barn Clothing chain to display the drill team’s awards in a display case at the Liberty store. That display has been in that store for the past several years. When he went into Boot Barn last Sunday Mr. Small said he received a shock. All of the numerous awards were gone. At this point, Tommy Small said Boot Barns corporate leaders have promised to do whatever is necessary to reproduce those trophies and awards that were thrown into the trash over a month ago. Boot Barn representatives have denied they were involved in any way in that decision by the store manager in Liberty. Drill Master Tommy Small said they will be searching their records for all the information to recreate the awards accumulated by the 4-H Drill Team over the past two decades. Some can be reconstructed, while others cannot. The name of the store manager who is alleged to have acted alone in tossing out the award display was not available. Her current employment status is also currently unavailable but information indicates she has not returned to work in Boot Barn’s Liberty Store.
