2-1-1 Registry

Hurricane season begins four weeks from Thursday, June 1. That means the time to prepare for the possibility of a hurricane making landfall along the upper Texas gulf coast is now. For those who might need help evacuating, should a hurricane make landfall in our area, that preparation means registering with the state for any help you or your loved ones might need. Liberty County Emergency Management Coordinator Tom Branch said registration is easy and should be done by calling 2-1-1 or going online to the state registry. Mr. Branch said those needing help during an evacuation should register now - not when a hurricane is in the gulf. Also, even if you registered in past years, you still need to re-signup again this year. Repeating, hurricane season starts June 1 and runs through November 30. Those who need help evacuating during a storm should register with the state - do that by calling 2-1-1 or going online to what’s called the State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry. You can access that state registration online site from the top of our homepage at kshn.com. Also, for helpful tips, supply lists and emergency preparation information, go to kshn.com and click on disaster preparation under the local information tab. That information is gathered from a variety of expert sources. It’s not a glossy pamphlet from a big TV station or insurance company, but the information is the same. We’ll have more on preparing for the hurricane season as well as this year’s tropical storm forecast in coming newscasts.
