UIL District Meet
Thirteen Liberty High School students have advanced to the Regional UIL Academic Meet after placing in Saturday’s district competition. In team competition, Liberty High School won first place in Calculator Applications as well as Spelling and Vocabulary. As already reported, the LHS Lit Crit team claimed the district title for the 13th straight year. Those earning top five placements were Jacob Stelly, Keaton Parker, Emily Connelly and Jensyn Runkel. As for the other LibertyPanthers advancing to the UIL Regional Meet, Jordan Case placed first in district in Accounting. In Calculator Application, Liberty’s Lidia Ochoa was first with teammates TaNia Donatto in third place and Francisco Pacheco capturing fourth. Also part of the Panther’s Calculator Application team is Desiree Papillion. In Computer Science, Gavin Deshotel placed second in district, advancing to region. In the Number Sense competition, TaNia Donatto finished third to advance. In UIL Social Studies, Liberty’s Kaleb Zick advanced by placing third in district. Then, in Spelling and Vocabulary, Lidia Ochoa captured second with Khrystal Woodson and Brooke Burgess in fifth and sixth respectively. Those 13 Liberty High School students will all compete in the UIL Regional Academic Meet on April 8 at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. From there, the first place team and the top three individuals in each category will move on to the state competition in late April.
