Three duck hunters from our listening area died over the weekend in Matagorda Bay. Those men have been identified as 18-year-old Chris Ruckman of Dayton, 25-year-old Starett Burke of Wallisville and 19-year-old Spencer Hall of Mont Belvieu. Chris Ruckman was a 2016 graduate of Dayton High School. According to information from the U.S.Coast Guard, the men reportedly launched a 17-foot, flat-bottomed boat around 4 a.m.Friday. They left from a place off County Road 312 on the east side of Carancahua (Kuh-ron-kuh-way) Bay off the north end of Matagorda Bay. Ruckman’s girlfriend contacted the Coast Guard after the men failed to return home late Friday. The Coast Guard and Texas Parks and Wildlife conducted a search. The first body was recovered around 11 a.m.Saturday about three miles southeast of Port O’Connor. Soon after, a second body and the boat were located while the last was recovered around 4 p.m.Saturday. The Coast Guard reported a small craft advisory was in effect when the boat was launched and while the search was ongoing. Again, those three duck hunters who perished over the weekend have been identified as Chris Ruckman of Dayton, Starett Burke of Wallisville and Spencer Hall of Mont Belvieu.
