Men's Health Fair
Mark your calendar - the Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center and KSHN Radio are once again hosting a free men’s prostate screening clinic and health fair. It’s set for a week from this Saturday, January 14, from 8 a.m.to noon at the hospital. The free men’s health fair includes both the D.R.E., or Digital Rectal Exam, and the blood test called PSA, or Prostate Specific Antigen. The prostate testing will be coupled with several other blood tests important to men’s health. Life Share Blood Center will also have its blood donor coach there for those who would like to give the gift of life. According to information from American Cancer Society, an estimated one in seven men will develop prostate cancer during their lifetime, which is why screening is so critical. The American Cancer Society says when detected early survival rate is nearly 100 percent. With that in mind, KSHN and Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center are teaming up again for their annual prostate screening clinic. Organizers of the free health fair say men above 45 years old should get a prostate screening each year. However, that age is lowered to 40 for men with a close blood relative who has had prostate cancer. Experts also recommend all African American men begin getting screenings at 40 years old because of a higher incidence of prostate cancer for them. So mark your calendar - that free men’s health fair is Saturday, January 14, from 8 a.m.till noon at Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center, 1353 North Travis in Liberty. Please use the Travis Street entrance. Results will be mailed within a few days of the health fair.
