Driving While Intoxicated
In Texas, there is a difference between driving “drunk” and driving while “intoxicated”. For example a person may have only ingested a small amount of an alcoholic beverage before getting behind the steering wheel but given that person’s size and metabolism that can still be enough to make them legally intoxicated. Attorney Chad Etheridge said the reason most people attempt to drive while intoxicated is because they are intoxicated and by definition not thinking clearly. Liberty County Attorney’s Office Prosecutor Katherine McCarty said before you become intoxicated, establish your ride home in advance of the evening’s celebration and save yourself about $6,300 in fees and fines for a first time conviction of DWI plus a lifetime of regret and possibly injuries to the driver or worse.
