Otto on State Revenue Estimates
When State Representative John Otto retires on December 31st, he will already have played a crucial role in developing the State Budget for the next two years. As outgoing Chair of the influential House Appropriations Committee, John Otto is a member of the State Legislative Budget Board. The Dayton Republican said budgeting funding for state agencies over two years in the future can be tricky, since they won’t know what the projected state revenue for that period will be until January 2017. It has been widely reported that Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick and House Speaker Joe Straus instructed all state agencies to cut their projected operating budgets by 4% for the next bi-ennium. State Representative John Otto said part of his job during his final budget conferences has been to make sure those agencies did not make cuts to areas that will affect their ability to function successfully.
