Fregia at Sam Houston State

The Sam Houston State University Bearkats baseball team was knocked out of the NCAA Lafayette regional tournament over the weekend. Among the players taking the field for the Bearkats was third baseman Andrew Fregia of Liberty. He is a freshman at Sam Houston State University. The Bearcats lost game one in that double-elimination tourney to the Arizona Wildcats 7-3. Sam Houston State rebounded to defeat Princeton 7-2 before losing another match-up to Arizona 6-5. During the NCAA regional tournament, Andrew Fregia went 4 for 10 at the plate with one walk and 4 runs batted in. He also scored twice. During his senior year in high school as an All-District standout shortstop for the Liberty Panthers, Andrew Fregia had a .585 batting average. According to the website Baseball Cube, as a college freshman for the Bearcats, Andrew Fregia played in 61 games. His batting average was .274 but he led the team in slugging percentage at .516. Fregia hit for extra bases 31 times this season, including 16 doubles, seven triples and eight homeruns, quite a performance for a college freshman. Again, the Sam Houston State University Bearkats baseball season ended Sunday night with a loss to the Arizona Wildcats in the regional tourney held in Lafayette, Louisiana. Liberty’s Andrew Fregia ended his freshman collegiate season with a strong tourney performance, driving in four runs and scoring twice. Andrew’s parents are Terry and Windy Fregia of Liberty.
