Mens Health Fair

A reminder to the  men in our audience mark your calendar - the Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center is again hosting our long running men’s prostate screening clinic and men’s health fair. It’s all free and set for Saturday, January 18, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Liberty and Dayton hospital. This event was started, we believe, back in 1999 and held every year since, except one. The hospital and KSHN have jointly been sponsors. Matt Thornton, Chief Executive Officer at the hospital said he free men’s health fair includes both the D.R.E, or Digital Rectal Exam, and the blood test, or Prostate Specific Antigen. The prostate exam will be coupled with several other blood tests important to men’s health. Organizers of the free health fair say men above 45 years old should get a prostate screening each year. However, the age recommendation is lowered to 40 for men who have a blood relative who has experienced prostate cancer. Experts also agree all African-American men begin getting screenings at age 40 because of a measurable higher incidence of prostate cancer for them. So mark your calendar - that free men’s health fair is Saturday, January 18th, from 8 a.m. until noon at Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center, 1353 North Travis in Liberty. Please use the Travis Street entrance. Results will be mailed within a few days of the health fair. Remember medical experts, we have asked, agree that early detection of prostate cancer can save your life. It’s as a simple as that.  The Prostate screening clinic sponsored by Liberty Dayton Hospital and KSHN.com, costs you nothing. It’s free. On the morning of January 18th, to get the most accurate results, please do not have anything to eat or drink before the clinic. After the tests are complete they will have snacks for one and all.
