Adult male found in river

The body of what appears to be a white male was found in the Trinity River the day before Thanksgiving. We learned from Justice of the Peace Larry Wilburn that he thought the deceased was an adult male but small in stature  Judge Wilburn estimated the body was 5’5” to 5’ 7”  tall,  145 to 150 pounds and estimated to be 20 to 30 years of age. He said there was no obvious cause of death but he had been dead for two weeks or so. The man had no shoes but he did have channel lock pliers in his trouser pocket. There were some tattoos including what appeared to be a chain tattoo around his arm.   Little is known about the deceased other than he will undergo an autopsy in Jefferson County, perhaps Monday. Two boaters made the gruesome discovery Wednesday. They had come upon a badly-decomposing body in the Trinity said to be in the Kenefick Plaza area. Liberty County Sheriff’s deputies and Texas Game Warden Lauren Iles, along with the boaters, all worked together with local volunteer firefighters to recover the body. Sheriff’s Department Investigator Mark Ellington said the body appears to have been in the water for a couple of weeks. Identity of the man and a possible cause of death will probably not be determined until completion of the autopsy to be performed Monday in Jefferson County.
