Busy Monday for Liberty PD

It started early for the Liberty Police department, first with a call into the hwy 90 river bottom between liberty and Dayton.  A power line was down across the roadway making travel impossible.  Liberty Police Lt Chip Fairchild said the cause was something he wasn’t likely to see again.  A wrecker was towing a pickup east on Highway 90. The truck being towed had a bed cover that at just the right moment was caught by the wind, ripped off the pickup and tossed into the air where it came down on two power lines bringing them to the ground.  It didn’t take long to clear up the mess, but it did shut both east and west Hwy 90 between liberty and Dayton for a period of time.  Then a couple hours halter, a wreck on Hwy 146 north, just north of the North Main Baptist Church, a motorcycle accident again shut down the roadway, but this time, it was much more serious. Lt. Chip Fairchild said the motorcycle accident was caused when two motorcyclists went to pass a vehicle stopped to turn left.  While passing on the right side of the stopped car, the second motorcycle struck the back of the first motorcycle throwing the rider from the bike.  That rider was taken by Life Flight Air Ambulance said to be in critical condition. Then late afternoon, three accidents at the same time kept Liberty Police, EMS and fire hopping again. The first was at Main and Grand, the second Hwy 90 and South Liberty Oilfield Road and the third was a Sam Houston and Milam St. Injuries in all three of the afternoon wrecks were considered to be minor.
