Hunter Education

A Texas Parks and Wildlife Hunters Education Class will be offered Saturday October 19th in the Dayton Community Center. Hosted by Brent Beamesderfer, this hunter’s safety course follows the state guidelines of eight hours of training. That is reduced from the previously required 10 hours over two days. Hunters in Texas, born on or after September 2, 1971, must successfully complete a state-mandated Hunter Education Training Course to be licensed. According to information on the class, you also must take a hunters ed course to hunt in other states, regardless of your age. Mr. Beamesderfer said the Texas certification does qualify for all other states requiring hunter safety training. Participants will learn about firearm equipment, basic hunting and shooting skills plus primitive hunting equipment and techniques. Other topics include hunter safety, ethics, survival skills and concealment techniques. Once more, that hunter education course is Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Dayton Community Center, 801 South Cleveland Street. All day attendance is required to receive a certificate. Cost of the class is $15. It’s open to those 9 years old and above. To register, go online to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s website at www.tpwd.texas.gov to find the hunter education link under the hunting tab. Mr. Beamesderfer said registrants should not pay online; instead, the $15 should be paid on the morning of the class. For more information, call Brent Beamesderfer at 281-757-6950.
