Benefit for Deputy Whitten is Saturday

There is a benefit for Liberty County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Whitten tomorrow (Saturday) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Trinity Armory in Cleveland. The day’s events include live music, barbecue plates, a three-gun competition, raffles, auctions and a motorcycle poker run. There is also a truck, car, jeep and motorcycle show. It has been widely reported that Deputy Whitten was critically wounded back on May 29 when he was shot while responding to multiple shootings at B Dependable Plumbing on State Highway 321 near Cleveland. The last update from his family said the bullet that stuck Deputy Whitten’s neck and spine caused trauma and damage so extensive that he has only limited motion in just his neck and head and a small area on the right side of his body. We are told Deputy Whitten remains at Memorial Hermann Hospital. As for tomorrow’s benefit, the car show set up begins at 9 a.m. with judging at 11 o’clock. Then the motorcycle show set up begins at noon with judging at 2 p.m.  There is also a barbecue cookoff. They also will be selling two meat barbecue plates with sides for $10. As for the motorcycle poker run, it begins tomorrow at 8 a.m. at a business called the 1886 Humble Backyard at 7015 Manor Way in Humble. The motorcycle riders will stop at three Harley Davidson dealerships before ending at Trinity Armory in Cleveland where the full benefit will be under way. Along with all of the other activities, the armory will also be holding shooting competitions. As we said earlier, the benefit also includes raffles and an auction. The silent auction will start tomorrow at 10 a.m. and continue until 2 p.m. Then, bidding will get under way on the live auction. Again, that benefit for Liberty County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Whitten is tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Trinity Armory, 2152 County Road 388 in Cleveland.
