New NWS Hurricane and Severe Weather Guide full of useful information

The Houston-Galveston National Weather Service has a 32-page, full-color Hurricane and Severe Weather Guide that area residents might find helpful. KSHN has provided an online link to that latest publication on the top of our homepage. Hurricane season began June 1 and continues through November 30. Researchers at Colorado State University and the National Weather Service say the probability of a major hurricane making landfall in the U.S. is near the long-range average. With that in mind, now is a great time to prepare for the possibility of a hurricane making landfall along the upper Texas gulf coast. This newest National Weather Service Hurricane and Severe Weather Guide provides lots of helpful information, including emergency management contacts for 22 counties from throughout the Houston-Galveston region. Those include numbers for emergency management offices in both Liberty and Chambers counties. There are also phone numbers for the regional National Weather Service offices. The helpful guide has emergency supply lists along with other planning and preparation information. There are tips for businesses, homeowners and those with boats. Also included is information on insurance. There’s a checklist for those needing to evacuate as well as evacuation maps and a hurricane tracking chart. In addition, the newer publication offers advice for pet owners and those with livestock. Besides preparation instructions, there is weather information related to hurricanes, tornadoes, hail, wind and flooding. The publication also has advice for what to do after a storm.  Again, all of that useful information is part of the Houston-Galveston National Weather Service’s Hurricane and Severe Weather Guide. You can access the new 32-page full-color document from the top of our homepage at There is also a link on our website under disaster preparedness.
