LML Summer Reading Program starts next week

The very popular Liberty Municipal Library Summer Reading Program starts next week with entertainment, prizes and reading fun for area children. The free program is for all kids from birth through sixth grade. For more than 40 years, the Liberty library has offered a summer program that encourages kids to read by making it both fun and rewarding. This year’s theme is “A Universe of Stories”. Now is the time to register kids for this space-tastic program that gets under way very soon. The summer program gets off to a high-flying official start next Monday, June 17th. That is the first day children may check out books. The first activity day will be a week from Thursday, June 20th, when kids will enjoy a variety of crafts and games. All Thursday activities start at 2 p.m. Here is a sampling of the planned guests. On Thursday, June 27th, Space Center Houston will present an out-of-this-world program titled “Yes, It is Rocket Science.” Then, on July 11, magician John O’Bryant will touch down in the theater with his stellar magic show. John is always a summer reading program favorite. On July 18th, a group called Science Tellers will have a storytelling show about aliens who have come to Earth and need kids’ help to return to their planet. This show will have special effects. July 20th will be the last day to record books in each child’s reading logs, and those logs must be turned in by that day for each child to receive a certificate and bag of goodies. Then, the annual closing ceremony with special guest musician Will Parker is Thursday, July 25th. The final event will also include a party with awards, refreshments and prizes. Once more, kids participating in the Liberty Municipal Library’s free Summer Reading Program can begin checking out books next Monday, June 17th. Signups to participate are already under way. The weekly programs begin Thursday, June 20th. Children will only need an up-to-date library card to participate, but there is no charge for a card for Texas residents. The Liberty library is open Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Fridays from 1 to 5 and Saturdays from 10 to 4. For information on the free Summer Reading Program, call the Liberty Municipal Library at 936-336-8901.
