Paws 4 Love dogs to visit library to help children with reading skills

The Liberty Municipal Library is going to the dogs again this summer — the Paws 4 Love dogs, that is. The reading assistance dogs are always greatly enjoyed by the library’s young readers, and every summer the Paws 4 Love group generously gives their time to make their reading assistance dogs available to area children. The dogs will be ready to listen to children read next Thursday, June 13th, starting at 10 a.m. until the last session begins at 2 p.m. Sessions will be about 20 minutes long with a short break between readers. Children may sign up now to reserve a time slot with a dog and its handler. This year’s participating dogs are Chili, Suzie, Eddie, Strait and Hannah. Every dog has been carefully screened and trained to make sure they have the right temperament and personality to do well with children. Reading assistance dogs are the best of listeners while their handlers help readers with unfamiliar words. Children who participate will receive a free book and sticker from the Paws 4 Love program and they’ll make a new canine friend. This is a free program and beginning readers through sixth-graders are invited to read to these loveable dogs.  Parents may sign up their children on a first-come, first-served basis. Photos of the dogs can be seen at the library prior to the event. The Liberty Municipal Library is located inside the Geraldine D. Humphreys Cultural Center at 1710 Sam Houston Street. It’s open Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., Fridays from 1 to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. For more information on next Thursday’s Paws 4 Love reading opportunity, call the Liberty Municipal Library at 936-336-8901.
