Battleship Texas State Historic Site to commemorate D-Day

Today marks the 75th anniversary of D-Day. To commemorate the anniversary, the Battleship Texas State Historic Site is hosting a ceremony and special exhibits Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm. A ceremony will start off the day on the bow of the ship to recognize Battleship Texas crewmembers and their families. Retired Navy Rear Admiral Samuel J. Cox will give remarks. Retired Admiral Cox is also the director of the Naval History and Heritage Command in Washington, D.C. Also participating in the ceremony will be Houston Wing commemorative Air Force, Air Sports Skydiving Team, U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps and others. The public will be allowed to board the ship at 7:30 AM. Admission to the ship will be free until 9:30. D-Day related artifacts from the ships collection will be on display. All activities off the ship are free and open to the public. Again a ceremony commemorating the 75th anniversary will be held on the Battleship Texas Saturday starting at 8 AM. After the ceremony the public is invited to view the special D-Day exhibit. Food and refreshments will be available from several local food trucks, the Lunch Bag and Smoothie Strong, as well as in the park’s ship store.
