LCSO deputy and three others shot, suspect sought

Texas Rangers are investigating four shootings in North Liberty County. One of those victims has died. It’s a story that has garnered widespread media attention amidst a massive manhunt. We began reporting around 8:30 this morning that a Liberty County sheriff’s deputy and three others had been shot by a man identified as Pavol Vido. Sheriff Bobby Rader told us the deputy was wounded when confronting the suspect in a separate shooting at B Dependable Plumbing on State Highway 321 near Cleveland. Deputy Richard Whitten spotted Vido and followed him to the Big Thicket Veterinarian Clinic, also on S.H. 321. There, Sheriff Rader said Deputy Whitten confronted the suspect who shot the deputy in the neck, reportedly very close to his carotid artery. The deputy, who has been with the department for four years, was taken by Life Flight air ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital. At last report, Deputy Whitten is said to be in stable condition. We are told three people were shot at B Dependable Plumbing, including the woman who died. The other two victims were reportedly transported to nearby hospitals. Their condition is unknown. At last report, the Texas Rangers have still not released the victims’ names. Pavol Vido also died today, presumably of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Our sources and various media outlets say the shooter drove the vehicle he was in to a nearby mobile home where he ditched the car and then hid underneath an overturned boat on that property. Law enforcement officers closed in on his position and were attempting to get Pavol Vido to surrender. However, a gunshot was heard and the suspect was later found dead, presumably of a self-inflicted wound.
