KSHN radio on-air personality, reporter passes away

Following a shockingly short illness, Eric Randal Latz age 59 died Tuesday morning around 1.  Eric had worked at KSHN Radio for almost 24 years, missing his 24th anniversary by only 2 weeks. Prior to coming to work at the radio station Eric worked with Dorothy and Weldon Nettles.  It was over the last 2 weeks when Eric began showing signs of illness, with flu like symptoms.  Thursday May 9th Eric called in sick for the first time. That afternoon doctors had him admitted to Kingwood hospital.  By Thursday evening he was in the Kingwood Intensive Care Unit.  By mid-day Friday Eric had been diagnosed with Acute Leukemia, pneumonia and sepsis. Overnight Friday or early Saturday morning, Eric’s breathing had deteriorated with the resulting pneumonia that doctors made the decision to intubate and put him into a medically induced coma.  Family reported Sunday morning Eric’s kidney’s had failed, and at 1 a.m. Tuesday, he passed away. We at KSHN have lost a valued employee, coworker and friend. The announced blood drive set for May 24 will b held to replenish blood transfusions administrated to Eric in an attempt to save his live. A public memorial will be held at a later date. He has one surviving sister.
