DHS students advance to nationals

Nineteen Dayton High School students were in Dallas April 3-5 for theFamily, Career and Community Leaders of Americaor FCCLA State Leadership Conference. Dayton High School’s group received the Outstanding Silver Chapter Award. Adult leader Debra Stephenson was honored as the Region IV Advisor of the Year. Also, Kevin Belanger was presented a FCCLA State Honorary Membership for his support of the Dayton chapter. In student competition, the Dayton team of Carolina Tinajero and Cherokee Johnson placed second in the category of Applied Math in Culinary Management. That qualifies the pair for Nationals June 29-July 5 in Anaheim California. They also received a $3,000 scholarship to Escoffier Culinary School. Carolina is the daughter of Carlos and Lucia Tinajero. Cherokee Johsnon is the daughter of Brandalyn Clowers. Also attending the National Conference are incoming Region IV officers for Dayton. They are Rueben Aguilar Jr and Marina Castillo. Rueben is the son of Ruben and Marina Aguilar while Marina is the daughther of Hector and Nayroby Castillo. In the Life Event Planning Occupational competition, the DHS team of Marline Barradas, Karen Pena and Brayan Del Angel placed third at the state conference. In the Toys that Teach event, Stephanie Lopez and Shelby Perry earned third place. Five Dayton students took home gold medals. They are Brayan Del Angel, Carolina Tinajero, Ruben Aguilar, Jennifer Lopez and Marline Barradas. Broncos claiming a silver medal were Marina Castillo, Devin Ewing, Kaytlin Castillo, Anna Brothers, Raven Howe, Troy Griffin, Grace Reavis and Adryan Reyes. Dayton students earning a bronze medal were Cherokee Johnson and Kyia Wyatt. A tip of the hat to these Dayton High School students and chapter leaders for their success at the recent Family, Career and Community Leaders of America State Leadership Conference.
