3 priests who served in Liberty accused in sex scandal

Catholic Church officials have released the names of 286 Texas priests who are believed to have molested children through the years. Thirteen of those served in the Diocese of Beaumont, and three were priests at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Liberty. The nature of the allegations and the locations where the priests were serving at the time of abuse were not disclosed. So there is not indication if the three priests who served in Liberty committed any abuses while serving here locally. In a letter to the Diocese of Beaumont, Bishop Curtis J Guillory said he was asking – quote – “the Catholic faithful to face a painful reality with courage and prayer as we share the names of the clergy who have served in our diocese against whom a credible allegation involving the sexual abuse of a minor was made” – end quote.  Bishop Guillory said a credible allegation is one where there are grounds to believe it is true after review of reasonably available, relevant information in consolation with the Diocesan Review Board or other professionals. The three priests named who served in Liberty are August Pucar, Frank Paduch and James Engle. August Pucar died in January 2012. However, information from the diocese indicates Pucars’ priestly duties were revoked in 2006 and he was directed by the Vatican Congregation the following year to lead a life or prayer and penance. As for Frank Puduch, his priestly duties were revoked in 2001. He was then dismissed from the clerical state in 2006. James Engle died back in 1999.
