Extension service a good resource on feral hogs

It’s been a few years since feral hogs have been an issue here though the animals continue to be a problem in other areas of Texas. Locally, the destructive animals’ appearances in populated areas have tapered off. Experts say that’s mostly due to wetter weather in Southeast Texas giving hogs easier access to water without invading local subdivisions. However, Liberty County Agri-Life Extension Agent Roy Flora said the destructive beasts are still around and there is some evidence they are making a comeback in this area. He said the best way to frighten the wild hogs into moving on is by shooting at them. That is, if you do not live in an area where gunfire is prohibited. Roy Flora said they have lots of information on hunting, trapping and also eating feral hogs. If you have questions call the Agri-Life Extension Office in Liberty at 936-334-3230.
