Man arrested for attacking city vehicle with bat, fleeing officers

A Liberty man has been jailed after causing a disturbance Thursday afternoon. Liberty Police Lieutenant Chip Fairchild said officers were called to the Park Place Apartments off Cook Road in Liberty around 3 p.m. A man was reportedly attacking a Liberty City vehicle with a baseball bat. Liberty Police arrived to find 37-year-old Jamal Mouton, apparently under the influence of narcotics. He was in the process of damaging the vehicle occupied by two city employees. Lt. Fairchild said Mouton became aggressive to officers, who used a pepper gun to try and subdue him. The pepper gun –which fires pepper spray like liquid, reportedly prompted the suspect to flee into the wooded area between the Park Place Apartments and the Liberty Municipal Park. After about a 20 minute foot chase, Liberty Police said they caught Jamal Mouton in the woods. By that time the man is said to have removed all of his clothing. At last report, Jamal Mouton was in the Liberty County Jail awaiting bond to be set on Criminal Mischief and Evading Arrest charges. No one was hurt. The Liberty Middle School and Liberty High Schools were put on what is now called lock out to secure the perimeter for less than five minutes during the incident.
