Dayton American Legion Post collecting packages for the troops

For years now, the Dayton American Legion Post has been collecting items to package up and send to U. S. Troops overseas. Those items include grooming items, non-perishable snacks and reading material. Post Adjutant Jerry Killion said it is a labor of love for the American Legion Post and participation has grown year after year. Mr. Killion said this year they have set aside two collection days for the community to bring the items they would like to donate. This year, all of the items for Christmas packages for military personnel will be collected by the Dayton American Legion Post Wednesday November 14th from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mount Cavalry Baptist Church on FM 1960 in Dayton. Then, items will be collected on Saturday November 17th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the new Dayton American Legion Post 512 home south of Dayton on Hwy 146 next to Palms Memorial Park. Afterward all these items will be packaged and sent to Fort Hood Army Base in Killeen for shipment overseas to troops from Texas in Iraq and Afghanistan in time for Christmas. If you would like to donate items for the troops and may not be able to make the two collection days, contact Jerry Killion at 936 402 0741.
