Murder trial continues today in 253rd District Court

Testimony continues today in the trial of a North Liberty County man for the murder of a neighbor in June 2016. 28-year-old Melvin Adalberto Morales-Rivas is charged with the murder of Vicente Rodriguez, 45, allegedly due to a dispute over a weed eater. Police say it was just after midnight on Sunday June 26th back in 2016 when Morales –Rivas shot Rodriguez multiple times at the man’s home in the Buena Vista Subdivision of North Liberty County. Investigators say it appeared the suspect set fire to the victim’s vehicle in order to lure him out of his house to be killed. Morales-Rivas has been held on a $2 million bond and an immigration detainer since his arrest. Juror selection began Monday and testimony began on Tuesday. Once again, the murder trial of Melvin Morales-Rivas for the 2016 shooting death of Vicente Rodriguez continues today in the 253rd District Court of Judge Chap Cain.
