American Red Cross needs local volunteers

The American Red Cross responds to nearly 64,000 disasters a year of all types. However, 90% of those disasters are single family home fires. Most of those responding to these disasters are local volunteers. The American Red Cross is recruiting volunteers in this area. One of those volunteers is well-known to Liberty County residents. James Bricker leads the local disaster response effort in Liberty County. He said many people may be surprised that Red Cross volunteers spend more time helping out in small personal disasters than big, high profile events that get the headlines. The Red Cross Interim Disaster Program Manager Ebony Fowler said without volunteers, the Red Cross could not be there for all those who need their help.
