Local murder tied to MS 13 gang

Two men charged with murder in Liberty County are implicated in a Houston gang murder investigation. We have reported that few official details were available when Walter Antonio Mejia, 21 and Jimmy Alexander Villalobos-Gomez, also 21 were arrested Wednesday August 22nd on a sealed indictment from Houston. What information we have indicates the murder charges against Mejia and Villalobos-Gomez are related to skeletal remains found in the Plum Grove area of North Liberty County in early August. In a press release from Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo, Walter Mejia and Jimmy Villalobos-Gomez were also named as suspects in the murder of an informant found hacked to death in a southwest Houston Park in June. The press release said investigators have tied eleven members of the violent MS-13 street gang to five homicides in the Houston area over the past three months. Nine were arrested Tuesday. Houston Police say Walter Mejia and Jimmy Villalobos-Gomez are also among that group of suspects. Again, Houston Police say two men now jailed in Liberty County for a Plum Grove murder last month are allegedly members of the MS-13 gang. An additional murder charge for a homicide in Houston in June, is pending against the two men.
