Texas Football picks for Hornets' district

KSHN has reported on Dave Campbell’s 2018 Texas Football magazine’s predictions that the Liberty Panthers are picked to once again make the playoffs while the Dayton Broncos might just miss out on post season action. Now, here’s a look at that magazine’s prognostications for another district in our listening area that, among others, includes Hardin, Anahuac and East Chambers. All three of those local teams are in District 12-3A, Division 1 that now includes Buna, Kirbyville, Orangefield, Warren and Woodville. The Texas Football writers project the Woodville Eagles to win that district’s championship and finish twelfth statewide. By UIL rule, four teams from each Class 3A district advance to the playoffs. Also expected to move on to the post-season from that district are the East Chambers Buccaneers, Orangefield Bobcats and Buna Cougars. If those predictions are correct, both the Anahuac Panthers and Hardin Hornets would miss out on post-season action along with the Kirbyville Wildcats and Warren Warriors. As for Hardin, the Hornets are under the direction of Athletic Director and Head Coach Larry Haynes. It’s his second year back at the helm after several years of retirement. The Hornets have five offensive and six defensive starters returning from a team that went 4-6 last season but was winless in district play. The statewide gridiron roundup says Hornet players to watch on offense include running back Darius White, quarterback Austin Potetz plus wide receivers Tyler Parker and Matthew Tidwell. Also singled out are offensive linemen Jonathan Sims, Caleb Richardson and Ethan McCoy. Two-way players include offensive lineman and noseguard Paul Thonsgard plus wide receiver/defensive backs Saxon McDaniel and Will Sims. On the defensive side of the ball, Hornet players to watch include safety Tyler Brown, linebacker David Elliott, defensive end Colton Kopeski, and linebacker Jacob Kopeski. If Dave Campbell’s Texas Football projections hold true, it will be another tough year for the Hardin Hornets who are not expected to make the playoffs. Instead, the gridiron publication predicts the Woodville Eagles will win District 12-3A with East Chambers, Orangefield and Buna also advancing to post season. KSHN will have more on Dave Campbell’s projections for the Hull-Daisetta Bobcats’ district in coming newscasts. A reminder - we’ll once again carry all of the Hardin, Hull-Daisetta and Barbers Hill football games with live coverage online at kshn.com. For the 42nd season in a row, all Dayton Broncos and Liberty Panthers games will be heard on KSHN FM 999 with several seasons now also online.
