Robbery: On Wednesday around 1:45 p.m. two men forced their way into the Good Times #3 Game Room at 4080 FM 563, south of Liberty. According to Steven Raspberry, investigator of the Liberty Co. Sheriff’s Office, one suspect claimed to have a gun. One of two men, both described as black males, was taking money from a game room employee, the other was attempting to take money from patrons in the game room. Subsequently, that thief had a physical confrontation with a patron. Then the crooks raced from the game room with some money. A witness described seeing a white female driving the getaway car. The car is thought to be a Ford Fusion, blue in color. If anyone has information about this armed robbery, please call the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at (936) 336-4500.
100 Club: We reported Wednesday that the 100 Club of Houston named Liberty County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Whitten their 2019 officer of the year. 100 Club Executive Director William Skeen told the vote for officer of the year was only days before he died while in physical therapy. Mr. Skeen said that, in 67 years of giving this award, this is the first time the hero officer of the year will receive it posthumously. Liberty County Sheriff Bobby Rader got a letter from the 100 Club last Friday however, the Sheriff was unable to reach Deputy Whitten before his death Monday. William Skeen said the 100 Club is currently evaluating what the needs of the family are now, going forward, and how the celebrated 100 club can help with those needs. Funeral for Deputy Richard Whitten is tomorrow at 11 am at The Sanctuary Church, 100 E. Hanson St. Cleveland, Texas 77327.
