Frontier Waste: The city of Liberty and their solid waste contractor, Frontier Solid Waste, has embarked on changes for local pickup starting January 20th on Monday. Every Liberty solid waste customer only has one pick-up per week instead of two. There will also be several major changes. Each residence will receive 93-gallon cart. On their one weekly pick up day customers should roll their cart to the curb or street edge. Park it with the cart front facing the street at least 4 feet from mail boxes, cars, or other carts. A Frontier Waste automated truck will stop at the cart. A special device will grasp the cart, empty it into the truck and place the cart back by the curb and move on. Check the cities website at city of liberty.org for complete operational details. Call Frontier for service or cart questions at 936-258-90-35. Call the City for billing questions at 936-336-36-84.

Party Primary Election: Early voting for the March 3rd Party Primary election gets underway in just over a month. We have already reported about registering to vote. Early voting is February 18th thru 28th. The last day to register to vote for the March primary is February 3rd. On Tuesday, at their regular meeting, Liberty Co. Commissioners approved a contract signed by both Republican and Democratic Party Chairs, agreeing to a joint election. The Parties will reimburse the county for the cost of Election Day while Liberty Co. will cover the cost of early voting. For any questions on the upcoming party primary election call the election administrator’s office at (936) 253-8050. Election Day is March 3rd.

Scouting: While this is not our observation, we often hear there is nothing for kids to do in Liberty Co. Just one very popular activity is scouting. We reported recently about Dayton Troop 8 Boy Scout, Hunter Alley, has achieved the highest rank of Eagle Scout as a representative of Dayton scout Troop 8. We did not have in our earlier report, how local kids can get in scouting, specifically in Troop 8 in Dayton. Troop 8 is perhaps the largest scout troop in Liberty County. Troop 8 is sponsored by Dayton’s Eastgate Church but scouts from anywhere are welcome. This troop is Scout run, with adult oversight, and holds monthly camping activities. Troop 8 is the only Scouting unit in Liberty County with High Adventure activities for older Scouts and standard camping activities for younger Scouts. Troop 8 is for ALL age boys 10 through 18. They meet weekly Tuesday nights at 6:30 at Eastgate Church in Dayton. Its open to any boys who has completed the 5th grade and who are least 10 years old but not yet over the age of 18. To learn more about Troop 8, attend a troop meeting or online visit troop8daytontx.com.
