Volume 34, No. 218 Monday, December 30, 2019
Hog Control: Texas State Senator Robert Nichols, who represents Liberty County and several other east Texas Counties, released information this week on feral hog control. This is particularly of interest in Liberty and Chambers Counties. As most know, very recently, a Liberty woman was attacked and killed in the yard of her employer in Chambers County. Now, Senator Nichols tells us that along with nine other states, Texas has received about a $1.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to help fund feral hog control and eradication programs in Texas. This program was created by the 2018 Farm Bill to respond to the threat that feral hogs pose to agriculture, human, and animal health, the ecosystem, and personal property. The funding will include loaning hog traps to those who need them to address the problem.
Scholarship Donation: It’s been well covered, the sale this past summer of KSHN Radio to KSBJ. After 40 plus years covering the south Liberty county area, Bill and Jana Buchanan made the decision to sell the FM transmitter and license. However, the history of giving to the community did not stop with the sale. Just before the Christmas holiday, Bill and Jana presented a check to First Liberty National Bank to add to the south Liberty County scholarship trust fund. Bank President Kelly Stretcher said this donation will benefit the youth of this area for years to come, continuing the legacy the Buchanan’s built with KSHN and it’s predecessor KPXE.
Recording History: We’d like your help. Our area is full of interesting history, and the people that lived it. From the locally famous to the wonderful everyday folks that make up the majority of our community and surrounding area. All have a story to tell. As time passes we are losing this history, this knowledge. We have the method and technology to preserve that history, those memories, and just those wonderful stories. We’d invite you to contact us a KSHN.COM if you, or a family member, lived through a significant time in history and can share those wonderful experiences and memories with our audience. We at KSHN.COM want to set aside one Party Line program every month or so to have these people with us both on air and in video to impart the history that we are losing. Call us at 936 336 5793 or 800 356 5793, ask for Bill or Tiffany. Please share this suggestion with your friends, let’s document our past for the future.
Joint Pain Management: Orthopedic experts report more than 700,000 knee replacement surgeries and nearly 400,000 total hip replacement procedures are performed each year just in the U.S. If you are one who has said again and again you want to be free from the agony of joint pain, the Houston Methodist Joint Pain Program in Baytown may be the starting place to keeping that promise to yourself. Orthopedic specialists there tell us improvements in surgical techniques and artificial joint construction make these procedures an effective option for combating joint pain. For an appointment with an orthopedic specialist at Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital, call this phone number: 281-427-7400
Obituaries: Gertrude “Trudy” Brown, 72, of Dayton, A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m., today at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton.
