Palais Royal Closing: You may have noticed the big liquidation sale – store closing signs in the Liberty Palais Royal store in the Jefferson Square Shopping Center. While this means a big sale for last minute Christmas shoppers, it may NOT be as serious as it appears, long term. KSHN.COM has learned from Stage Stores, the parent company of Palais Royal, that their Liberty Store will be converted in to a Gordman’s store name. The Liberty Score is not closing but it is changing names. Gordman’s is an off-price store, much like Marshalls or TJ Max, that will carry a wide array of major brand name merchandise, but at low prices. The Gordman’s store will get new merchandise each week and will include brand name apparel, home décor, footwear, gifts, accessories, fragrances and more for the entire family. That’s a lot of the merchandise now carried at Palais Royale. Customers who may have a Stage-Brand private label credit card, Style Circle Rewards and Stage-brand gift card can all be used at Gordman’s. We learned that the Palais Royal credit cards will still be accepted at the new Gordman’s and new credit cards will soon be sent to those card holders. The company said it will make the conversion in 2020.
Holiday Driving: Texas Department of Public Safety is urging drivers to help make the holidays safer by driving sober and using extra caution. In an effort to protect travelers on the state’s roadways, DPS troopers and local law enforcement will be out in force conducting traffic patrols now through New Year’s Day. The goal of the statewide effort is to save lives and decrease alcohol-related crashes with an emphasis during the holidays when alcohol consumption is more prevalent. DPS offers the following tips to ensure safe travel, not only during the holidays but also year-round. Obviously never drink and drive. Drivers should minimize distractions as much as possible. That means no texting while driving – it’s the law. Here are more tips – make sure everyone in the car is buckled up. Drivers also are reminded to slow down to 20 miles per hour below the marked speed limit for stopped emergency vehicles with emergency lights activated.
Another DISD Finalist: Dayton ISD has another staff member who has been named one of three finalists in the division of ‘Technical Support Person of the Year’ award by the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA). We already reported about Suzanne Chachere being named a finalist for TCEA Administrator of the year. Mrs. Chachere recommended Nathan Davis who has been with DISD 23 years. Mr. Davis started work with DISD while still in high school. Today he is the Network Administrator for the entire district. In a press release Mrs. Chachere said quote “We are so proud of him and want to recognize him for all of the wonderful work he does for our district.” TCEA is a global, nonprofit, member-based organization supporting the use of technology in education. It was founded in 1980 and has grown to over 28,000 members. The TCEA mission is to advance teaching and learning through the use of technology. The TCEA Educator Awards ceremony will be held at the Hilton Austin hotel in February.
Obituaries: Jessie Rodgers, age 80. Service Saturday 11 am Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton.
