Pickett Facebook Statement: As has been widely reported, Liberty County DA Logan Pickett was arrested in Houston charged with assault/family violence in late November. At that time Houston police alleged Mr. Pickett had shoved his wife causing her to fall against a wall and sustain an injury. While the family has been publicly quiet since that time about the incident, yesterday DA Pickett’s wife Megan made a statement on social media about the allegations made against her husband. That statement will be available in it’s entirety without edit on our news at 6:30, 7:45, and 12:15 as well as on our website,
Illness and Crime: Mental Health and the criminal justice system often intersect, and for years little was available for those who would benefit from Mental Health Treatment instead of being thrown into the criminal justice system. Liberty County Attorney Matthew Poston, a recent Party Line guest, said it is to often, individuals with mental health issues continue to commit the same offense because a possible mental illness is not dealt with. One of the County Attorneys mental health investigators, Liz Polasek, said once their office identifies that an offender may have a mental health issue she works with them to get the appropriate treatment. Anyone who wants information about this program should contact the County Attorneys Office at 936-336-4650.
