Death at Jail: Thursday evening, a male inmate at the Liberty County Jail was found unresponsive on the floor of his cell by Correctional Officers on a routine bed check. According to Captain Ken Defoor, Public Information Officer for the Liberty County Sheriff, a Liberty ambulance transported the man to the Liberty Dayton Regional Hospital. Despite life-saving efforts by emergency room staff, the inmate was pronounced dead. An investigation is being conducted jointly by the Texas Rangers and Liberty County Sheriff’s Lead Investigator Steven Rasberry. Liberty Co. S. O. Division Captain Billy Knox said, as a part of that investigation, an autopsy was ordered for Monday to determine cause of death. The inmate’s name is being withheld until all of his family members have been notified. The joint investigation by both law enforcement agencies is continuing.
************************************************Football: All District football team selections are not announced until all of the districts schools in the playoffs are eliminated from post-season play. So after Silsbee bowed out last weekend from District 10-4A, the best from the district that the Liberty Panthers are in are released. According to Liberty Panther Head Coach Chad Taylor, seven Liberty Panthers were honored among the districts best. All were Juniors or Seniors. On first team all district from Liberty in 10-4A from the offensive team comes a Junior Devin Fregia at tight end. He’s 6’4” 235 pounds. On the First team defensive unit named All-district is Panthers Linebacker, Senior - B. J. Peterson 5’11 195. Those Panthers were the only two first team all-district stars from the 2019 Liberty Panthers. Moving to second team the choices from Liberty in 10–4A first on offense is senior running back Jordan Leday - 5’9 200 pounds. And also on the 2nd team is offensive lineman Wyatt Tulley He is a junior, 5’11 230. Rounding out the last three to make all district from Liberty, all on the defensive unit, are Linebacker Jaydon Harris, Cornerback Elishia Chambers – a senior. And at Safety - Josh Chandler – a junior. All seven of those named all-district 10-4A from Liberty High School.

Soccer: Friday night the Liberty Panther soccer team of Coach Joe Roberts opened the 2019-2020 campaign with a rousing victory over the Alumni. The Panthers Varsity racked up 4 goals on the evening while surrendering one. Coach Roberts extended his thanks for the graduated seniors on the Alumni team who showed and played. Up next the Liberty Panthers travel to Bridge City on Tuesday for a 5 pm pre-season scrimmage. The Dayton Bronco soccer team was on the road at Lake Creek Friday the varsity took a hard earned victory 3-1. Bronco goals by Mario Puente, Jaimie Pineda, and Francisco Gonzalez lead the way but not without a stellar defensive effort by Giovanny Laredo. While the Dayton varsity soccer team was victorious the JV lost at Lake Creek, also on Friday.
