Identity of Body: We reported recently, a body was found in the Trinity River the day before Thanksgiving. That individual has now been identified as a 40-year old Kenefick resident, Kevin Scott Sowell. Officers of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department reported, at the time, that two boaters made the gruesome discovery Wednesday, November 27. They had come upon a rapidly decomposing body floating in the Trinity River said to be in the Kenefick Plaza area. Liberty County Sheriff’s Deputies and Texas Game Warden Lauren Iles, along with the boaters, all worked with local volunteer firefighters to recover the body. Justice of the Peace Larry Wilburn said, at that time, there was no obvious cause of death but the deceased had been dead for around two weeks. Cause of death is still undetermined as officials wait on results from the toxicology report. We are told that could take up to 6 weeks. The autopsy was conducted at the Jefferson County Medical Examiners office.
