Cost of Living Adjustment: With the New Year 2020 just around the corner, changes are coming for those who receive Social Security checks starting very soon, in January as a matter of fact. On a recent Partyline program Andy Hardwick, a public Affairs Specialist for the Social Security Administration, tells us the cost of living adjustment for 2020 increased 1.6 percent. Andy Hardwick said if you have any question about social security, talk to a Social Security representative by calling 1-800-772-1213 Monday-Friday.
Deadline to File: The deadline to file to run for a public office ends soon. December 9th is the deadline to file for the Republican and Democratic Primaries in Liberty County. We reported earlier on the first day to file, a number of candidates did file to run in the Republican Primary. Today we learned from Liberty County Republican Party Chairman Ryan Daniel that two more candidates have filed to run for county offices in the March Primary. Percent 3 County Commissioner James “Boo” Reeves now faces a challenge from David S. Whitmire. Precinct 6 Constable John Joslin filed his paperwork to run for re-election. Joslin has a challenger in Zack Harkness. On the Democratic side, as of news time no candidates have filed paper work to run for a county office in the March Democratic Primary here in Liberty County .
Country Christmas Tonight: The South Liberty County Country Christmas, sponsored by the City of Liberty and The Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, is tonight. The festivities begin with a lighted parade at 6:00 PM. As in past years the parade is on Travis Street not Main Street. When the parade is over, the fun shifts to the City Hall Complex. There will be the lighting of the Christmas tree, pictures with Santa, free hot chocolate and cookies. a trackless train, moonwalks, pony rides, dancing horses, hay rides, mule drawn wagon rides, and entertainment. Lady Broncos victorious: The Lady Dayton Broncos varsity basketball team squeaked by Kountze 34 -33. Leading the Broncos was Brianna Sias with nearly half of the Dayton scoring. She had 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 steals. The Bronco Lady JV team defeated Kountze also on Friday night 44 to 16 led by Mykala Souders with 14 points. The Lady Broncos will travel to Crosby today.
