Industrial Park abatement: At their regular meeting Monday the Dayton City Council approved tax abatement for Rail Logix Dayton LLC. Director of the Dayton Community Development Corporation (DCDC) Ann Miller said the abatement agreement only covers development of the industrial park. The agreement calls for up to 2.4 million square feet of industrial warehouse space. Custom build outs are available. According to Miller the development should bring a lot of high quality jobs to the City of Dayton.
Upgrades Continue at LISD: In May of 2015 voters in the Liberty School District approved a 33.5 million dollar bond project. The project made improvements at all four LISD Campuses. Now fast forward to 2019 and the original projects have been completed. Some minor details do remain. LISD assistant superintendent Dustin McGee said because of sound investments by the district financial experts there are some bond funds leftover. Those surplus funds are being put to use on projects based on need left off the 2015 bond. Mr. McGee said one is the awning extended in the back of San Jacinto Elementary, creates a new pick up and drop off lane for students. The awning protects them from the elements. McGee said this project was possible due to sound investments by LISD.
Retired St. Stephens Church featured in Calendar: A website called, written by Beth Yarbrough may seem as if it would have no connection to Liberty County, and yet it does. You see, Beth Yarbrough has a sister-site called “Southern Voice”, a website dedicated to the wonderful old structures across southern U,S. from the grand to the simple. Her website is filled with stories and photos of old homes, buildings, churches and homesteads. There is a calendar called Southern Churches and it features the retired St. Stephens Episcopal Church- now at Sam Houston Center on FM 1011. Barbers Hill: The Barbers Hill Eagles extended their football winning streak to 10 games with a win last Friday against Houston Sterling. Now the Eagles advance to the Area round of 5A UIL Playoffs to face the Whitehouse Wildcats who had a 6-1 district record and advance with a win on . This playoff game is at the home of the NFL-Houston Texans. The Eagles and Wildcats kick off is 7:30 PM Friday night at NRG Stadium in Houston.
