Motorcycle Wreck Sunday: A two vehicle accident Sunday afternoon sent a badly injured man to a Houston hospital by Life Flight Air Ambulance. The accident involved a truck towing a trailer exiting the TVE Fairgrounds onto FM 563, That’s when a motorcycle southbound on FM 563 struck the trailer. City of Liberty Police Lt. Chip Fairchild said the initial investigation showed the motorcycle driver was at fault. No other injuries were reported. Lt. Fairchild said the man transported by air ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital is still in critical condition. Names were not available at the time of this report.
Fuel Spill: A diesel fuel spill at the Stripes Fuel Station in Dayton at Hwy 90 and SH 146 Tuesday sent several Liberty County Emergency Departments into action. A tractor trailer driver was putting diesel fuel into the tank of his truck when a cross over line connecting the two saddle tanks failed. The Dayton Volunteer Fire Department was first to respond. They applied kitty litter absorbent and booms to also absorb the spilled fuel. According to Cliff Powell, of the Liberty County Haz-Mat team, fast action of Dayton Volunteer and then Liberty County Hazmat prevented diesel from contaminating the water table. Hazmat personnel remained at the site until a contractor for Stripes arrived to complete the clean up. Business at the Stripes Fuel Station was not interrupted.
