FEMA Deadline: Deadline to apply for disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for Tropical Storm Imelda is December 3rd. Renters or homeowner may qualify for assistance. For your information, FEMA cannot provide assistance for items covered by insurance. However you may receive help for items not covered by insurance. If your home was impacted by Tropical Storm Imelda then FEMA recommends you apply for assistance. Disaster Recovery Centers are open in both Liberty and Cleveland. In Liberty at the Jack Hartel Building 318 San Jacinto and in Cleveland at the Cleveland Senior Citizens Center 220 Peach Ave. Both of those disaster recovery centers in Liberty County are open 8 AM till 6 PM Monday – Saturday until December 3rd. Register online at or call FEMA 800-621-3362 from 7 am -10pm six days a week.
Lady Panthers: On Monday Liberty Lady Panther Head Volleyball Coach Karen Slack announced that eight Lady Panthers received All-District honors. Senior Robin Lemelle was selected to the All-District 1st team. Abby Phillips a senior and freshman Kennedy Evans were selected to the second team. Honorable mention goes to junior Abbie Knepper and freshman Katrina Tran. The Lady Panthers have three players selected to the Academic All-District team Kennedy Evans, Katrina Tran and Morgan Vaughn. To be honored as Academic All-District a player must score at least a ninety average in all classes. Coach Slack said to be selected to the All-District team in District 21 is a major honor. District 21 is made up of Huffman, Splendora, Tarkington, Livingston, Liberty, and Shepherd. So how tough is District 21? Both Huffman and Splendora advanced to the UIL Regional tournament.
Eagles Tickets: The Barbers Hill Eagles are moving on to the Area round of the UIL state football playoffs this Friday. The Eagles face the
Whitehouse Wildcats at 7:30 PM. The teams play at NRG Stadium in Houston. You can get tickets today at the Barbers Hill ISD Tax office. Pre-sale tickets are $6 for students, $13 for adults. Tickets at NRG are $15 for everyone. Parking at NRG is also $15. The NRG “clear bag policy” is in effect for this game. According to the NRG website all bags brought into the stadium must be clear and smaller than 12”x 6” x 12”. For more information on the NRG clear bag policy visit their website dash bag dash policy.
