CISD Bond: Unofficially, until canvassing is complete, Tuesday voters in the Cleveland Independent School District passed a $198 million bond issue. 715 voters or 54% said yes, 611 or 46% said no. Chris Trotter Cleveland ISD Superintendent said from the first day of school through yesterday, CISD grew by a stunning 500 students plus. That puts present enrollment close to 7,600 students. Mr. Trotter projected student enrollment, in 5 years, of near or even topping, 14,000 students. With Tuesday’s school bond passage Cleveland ISD will renovate North side Elementary, build two elementary schools plus a Middle School. Then the Softball & Baseball Complex will be upgraded, and a Staff and Administrative office will be added.

Election Results: Voters across Texas went to the polls Tuesday and approved 9 of the 10 proposed Texas Constitutional Amendments that were on the ballot. Here in Liberty County, voting mirrored those statewide results. Locally, Proposition 10 received the highest approval with 94 percent voting yes. Prop 10 allows retired law enforcement animals to be adopted by their handlers. Proposition 1 received the least amount of support from Liberty County voters, with 72% percent saying no. It would allow select municipal court judges to serve multiple jurisdictions. It would not prohibit appointed municipal court judges from serving multiple jurisdictions. Once more, 9 of 10 Texas Constitutional Amendments received voter approval both statewide and from the Liberty County voters who cast ballots. Remember, results are unofficial until canvassed. In north Liberty Co. ESD #7 and JP Precinct #6 local option for alcohol both passed in close voting. This alcohol sales vote does not affect cities of Cleveland or North Cleveland.

Dayton OST: The City of Dayton will participate in the Old Spanish Trail Centennial Celebration this Saturday with an Antique and Classic vehicle Caravan. Dayton Mayor Caroline Wadzeck, on a recent kshn.com Party Line program, invited antique & classic car owners to parade in Saturday’s event. The OST celebration began in 2015 and runs yearly until 2029. It commemorates construction of the first paved highway connecting southern states. The Dayton OST celebration is Saturday from 10 AM from the Dayton Community Center thru the river bottom around county court house in Liberty and back to Dayton, set to end at 3.

Sailing Angels: Last Saturday November 2, dawned bright and sunny, with a brisk north wind. That was a perfect setting for the well organized sailing cruise that the Kemah based Sailing Angels provided for their “Salute to Heroes” cruise and boat parade past the Kemah Boardwalk on Clear Lake. The Sailing Angels is a 501 C3 organization. They utilize over 40 boats and 135 volunteers in this, one of a kind, foundation to provide “hydro-therapy” for over 13,000 special needs children in the last 10 years. A large number of wounded warriors and families are also members. Capt. Dave encourages any group that may be interested in taking advantage of this free service to log onto the Sailing Angles website: SailingAngels.org and fill out a registration form and a cruise date will be set.
