Kidnapper Sentenced: A 22-year-old Mexican National, living in Liberty, has been sentenced on federal kidnapping charges in the Eastern District of Texas, That verdict was announced by U.S. Attorney Joseph D. Brown. Juan Carlos Saucedo-Meza was found guilty by a federal jury in April for kidnapping. Wednesday of this week he was sentenced to 365 months in federal prison. According to information presented in court, Saucedo-Meza kidnapped a woman from Liberty and transported her to Lake Charles, LA, against her will. Saucedo-Meza stopped the vehicle in Jefferson County where the woman was raped and assaulted. Subsequently, the victim escaped Saucedo-Meza in Lake Charles, Louisiana when he stopped for gas.

Candidate Filings: The party primary election is not until March but the required filing for candidates to be on the ballot starts soon. Those candidate filings start Saturday November 9th and the window to file is open thru December 9th. Here’s advice from Liberty County Clerk Lee Chambers – DO NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL FIRST FILING A CANDIDATE TREASURER’S REPORT IN THE COUNTY CLERKS OFFICE. Don’t spend money, don’t put up signs, don’t ask for votes, or send out campaign material. Do not do anything as a candidate, until first filing that candidate treasurer’s report with the county clerk. To fail to do so is a misdemeanor violation.

Health Care: The open enrollment period for health care coverage for 2020 in the Federal Health Insurance Exchange opens today - Friday November 1st. The enrollment period runs until December 15th. During this period is the only time you can buy 2020 health care coverage using the Federal Health Insurance Exchange unless you qualify for certain exemptions. Go to Healthcare.gov to enroll in a 2020 health care plan.
