Voter ID: On a recent Partyline program Liberty County Clerk Lee Chambers reminded voters they must have proper government issued identification to vote. Acceptable forms of ID include a current Texas drivers license, an unexpired DPS issued identification card, or a License to Carry permit. Other approved forms are a US passport, a US military ID card or a US Citizenship Certificate. Still another form of identification that can be used to vote is what’s called an Election Identification Certificate or EIC. Those are available at no charge year-around at all Texas driver license offices which is presently closed in Liberty. Early voting began Monday and continues through Friday, November 1st. SBA Loans: In the aftermath of Tropical Storm Imelda the U.S. Small Business Administration is offering Disaster Loans and other services in counties that have been declared Federal Disaster Areas. Burl Kelton Public Information Officer for the SBA said the turn around for getting the loan can be rather quick. The SBA currently has representatives at the Jack Hartel Building in Liberty 7 days a week, from 7 until 7. Interested applicants can also call the SBA customer service center at 1-800-659-2955. The deadline to file a loan application with the SBA is December 3rd for physical damage and July 6, 2020 for economic losses.
Old Spanish Trail: In August of this year the City of Dayton, named an official Old Spanish Trail City, by the Old Spanish Trail Association. The City of Dayton will participate in the celebration on November 9th with an Antique and Classic vehicle motorcade. Dayton Mayor Caroline Wadzeck said the centennial celebration began in 2015 and runs until 2029 to commemorate construction of the first paved highway connecting southern states. The Dayton OST celebration is Saturday November 9th starting at 10 AM and wraping up at 3. Volunteers Needed: For those who enjoy Champion Lake, or who have heard of the Lake but not been there check this. The renovation of the historic Champion Lake Lodge and the Champion Lake Cottage begins under guidance of a volunteer group known as Friends of Trinity River Refuge (FOTRR). The cabins are 10 miles south of Dayton on FM 1409 to County Road 417. It’s only a short way on 417 to the lake. The Friends have set 3 Saturday workdays, from 8 to 1 and they need volunteers.
